Hope Watermelon Festival 2026: Vendor Booths, Sponsorship Tiers & How to Participate
Vendors who apply for the Hope Watermelon Festival usually ask our office the same question. Will a booth earn back its cost over the three days? The answer depends on your margin and on the selling hours you can staff. Because the 2026 fees are fixed and published, you can calculate the result before you apply.
The 50th Hope Watermelon Festival: What to Expect in 2026
The 50th watermelon festival takes place August 6-8, 2026 at Hope Fair Park. Admission is free, although the Saturday night concert requires a ticket. Estimates of the crowd range from about 20,000 to 50,000 across the three days. We advise you to base your stock on the lower count and keep a reorder option for Saturday.
The Arkansas Food Hall of Fame lists the festival as a food-themed event. Visitors do come to eat. Civic clubs serve pulled pork and catfish dinners. Growers sell whole melons at the park. Concession spaces are limited and all outdoors. We try to offer a variety of menus and grant no exclusivity for a menu item, so a food seller competes on quality and speed of service. Your full staff should be on hand during the scheduled contests and the Saturday concert, because those hours bring the largest crowds onto the grounds.
| Day | Festival hours | Events that draw crowds |
| Thursday, August 6 | Noon-9 p.m. | Watermelon Dog Show at 7 p.m. |
| Friday, August 7 | 9 a.m.-9 p.m. | Melon Jams open mic at 6 p.m. |
| Saturday, August 8 | 9 a.m.-9 p.m. | 5K at 7:30 a.m., car show until 2 p.m., eating contest at noon, concert gates at 6 p.m. |
Heat at an August festival in Hope, Arkansas
August in Hope is hot. The normal daily high of about 93°F at the local weather station holds through the whole festival week. Shade at an outdoor booth is the vendor’s own responsibility. Candles, chocolate, or anything else that softens in heat goes into a cooler. A concession that depends on ice should book an afternoon delivery as well as the morning one.
Vendor Booth Options and Fees
| Watermelon festival booth rental for 2026 (vendor and concession applications) | Without electricity | With electricity |
| Indoor booth | $250 | $275 |
| Outdoor booth | $200 | $225 |
| Covered Pavilion booth | Not offered | $125 |
| Concession space, outdoors | Not offered | $600 |
| Non-profit concession space, outdoors | Not offered | $350 |
| Third-party festival event | Not applicable | The greater of $250 or 10% of net receipts per event |
Spaces are rented only for the full three days. Merchandise vendors receive a 10-by-10-foot booth, indoors or out. A food concession is assigned an outdoor space by trailer length. Indoor booths are placed in the coliseum or the horticulture building. Requests for a specific location are considered but not guaranteed.
- Electricity. A booth comes with a single 110-volt outlet, which will power a lamp or a card reader. A cooking trailer needs a concession space, where the application states the trailer’s amperage, 20, 30, or 50 amps, along with the plug type.
- Water. No space includes a water connection. Food concessions bring their own potable water and wastewater containers, as the Department of Health requires for temporary stands.
- Equipment. Vendors bring their own tables and chairs, because we have nothing to rent or lend on the grounds.
- One business per space. A space that is shared or sublet will be forfeited by each party. You can request more than one space on the application.
- Insurance. Concessions must hold liability insurance for the festival and show proof before setup. Merchandise vendors sign a release of liability instead.
- Food samples. Any vendor who offers samples, dips included, must follow Arkansas Department of Health rules. An inspector visits the grounds before opening.
- Refunds. Fees aren’t refunded for rain or other events outside our control. A refund may follow only if the chamber itself cancels the festival, on a request made in writing.
- Security. The grounds have limited security around the clock, yet vendors remain responsible for their stock. You should remove cash and small valuables overnight.
- Parking. Passes come in the vendor packet. Vehicles may remain on the grounds only during setup hours.
- Smoking. It is prohibited in covered and indoor areas.
Sponsorship Packages for Local Businesses
Sponsoring the festival is the most direct form of promotion the chamber offers a local business all year. A sponsor’s name reaches the crowd in person and the wider region through schedules and news coverage. Levels for 2026 aren’t published as a price list. The chamber settles the level with each sponsor after you send the sponsor form. The one published amount is a major concert sponsorship for the 50th festival, announced at $1,000. You should confirm your level early in the summer, because brochure advertising and stage signage are produced before setup week.
| Hope AR festival sponsorship forms | Where the sponsor’s name appears |
| Stage naming | On a festival stage and in the listing of every event held there |
| Concert sponsorship | In announcements for the Saturday night concert |
| Brochure advertising | In the official festival brochure |
| Booth presence | At a staffed space among the vendors |
Festival sponsorship for a small business can begin with a brochure advertisement or a booth. A business that wants the Saturday night audience in particular can ask for a concert level. A stage name reaches every visitor who attends an event there across the three days.
Budgeting Your Festival Participation
The booth fee is only part of what the weekend will cost. Inventory, insurance, permits, lodging, and staff wages come before the first sale. Sales tax is added to your prices and passed on to the state, so it isn’t a cost line.
| Vendor booth cost at this Arkansas festival and the other cost lines | Amount | Note |
| Booth rental or concession fee | 125-600 | Set by the type of space |
| Inventory or ingredients | Your product cost multiplied by expected sales | The largest line for most sellers; unsold stock goes home with you |
| Temporary food permit | $5 a day | Food sellers only; no fee for nonprofits |
| Liability insurance for a 1-3 day event | From ~$49 | Published entry price of event policies; required for concessions |
| RV site at Fair Park | $25 a night | Water and 30- or 50-amp power |
| Card processing | ~2.6% and 10-15 cents per sale | Typical pricing of mobile card readers |
| Staffing | ~$730 for two helpers | 33 selling hours at the $11 state minimum wage |
Sales tax at the park is 10.5% in August 2026. The vendor is liable for collecting and remitting it. You can add it at the register or set round prices that include it. In the second case, the tax comes out of each sale before you count your margin.
The worksheet is for testing your own prices, with two made-up sellers to show how the lines connect. Neither example predicts your sales.
| Break-even line | What goes in it | A craft booth, say | A food trailer, say |
| A. What you spend before the first sale | Space fee + insurance + permit + lodging + travel | ~600(275 indoor booth, ~$50 insurance, 100RVsite,~175 fuel) | ~1,200(600 space, 15permit,~50 insurance, ~400motel,~135 fuel) |
| B. Average sale | What a typical customer pays you for one item | $20 | $9 |
| C. Cost per sale | What that item costs you, card fee included | ~$9 | ~$3.50 |
| D. Margin per sale | B minus C | ~$11 | ~$5.50 |
| E. Sales needed to break even | A divided by D | ~55 | ~220 |
| F. Sales per selling hour | E divided by 33 | ~2 | ~7 |
How to Apply: Deadlines & Contact
We accept applications for as long as space remains.
- Send the online form. Merchandise sellers use the vendor application. Food sellers use the concession application.
- Email your photos. Pictures of a previous setup and of your merchandise or menu go to hopemelonfest@yahoo.com, the address our festival staff read.
- Wait for the invoice. Please don’t send money before the chamber issues an invoice through QuickBooks. You can then pay by card, or by check to Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 250, Hope, AR 71802.
- Pay by June 30, 2026. A placement unpaid after that date is forfeited.
- File the food permit. Food sellers submit the temporary permit application to the Hempstead County Health Unit, 870-777-2191, at least three business days before the festival.
- Check in and set up. Vendors collect their packet at the festival office in the coliseum. The grounds open for setup on Wednesday, August 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., then again on Thursday morning until 11 a.m. A space that isn’t ready when the gates open at noon on Thursday is forfeited, without a refund.
